Director of Education

The Director of Education will lead the Community Child Guidance Clinic School in promoting the optimal educational development of all students, with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Director will ensure that all educational programs meet Connecticut State Department of Education statutory and regulatory requirements while also implementing strategies to create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for all students. The Director will provide leadership, supervision, and administrative support to the school's faculty and work collaboratively with families and community partners to support student success.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administers and oversees all aspects of the School operations.
- Supervises and supports all personnel of the school, including administrators, faculty and staff.
- Ensures the integrity and effectiveness of the school's community and school outreach and student assessment and intake processes.
- Leads and participates directly in the school's personnel recruitment and retention processes; including interviewing applicants who are candidates for positions, and making individual appointment, recognition, disciplinary or termination recommendations.
- Assists in the completion of appropriate appraisal and evaluation processes for all School personnel, including faculty evaluation consistent with guidelines for teacher evaluation as provided by the Connecticut State Department of Education as applicable to the Student and Teacher Support Specialists (SEED) model.
- Facilitates and ensures the provision of appropriate professional development and training opportunities for all staff of the school, on topics of current and emergent relevance to the effective delivery of service(s) to students.
- Coordinates the placement of student teachers and interns with regional colleges and universities and oversees the utilization of volunteers within the school.
- Conducts needs assessment of the school and communicates with the Chief Executive Officer regarding the status and needs of the school.
- Gathers and distributes pertinent information regarding State and Federal statutory mandates, regulatory requirements and applicable guidelines; preparing the School for approval/reapproval by the Connecticut State Department of Education.
- Participates with CCGC leadership in the development of the annual budget for the School and CCGC.
- Maintains communications with instructional and related services staff to achieve ongoing quality assurance of service delivery and monitoring of student status and progress.
- Ensures the timely accomplishment of individual educational and/or developmental assessments of students annually or as needed.
- Oversees the implementation of current and emerging best practices in all aspects of School instructional and related services to students; including, but not limited to behavior management intervention strategies.
- Undertakes additional role-related projects, activities and responsibilities, at the discretion and direction of the Chief Executive Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience in special education administration.
- At least five (5) years’ of successful experience as a full-time special education teacher in a public or state approved private special education facility.
- Proven ability to evaluate and produce reliable results, problem-solve and trouble shoot problems
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to manage time effectively
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- The Director of Education shall be certified by the Connecticut State Department of Education.
- Administrators of the facility’s special education program shall hold either a current teacher certificate in comprehensive special education (165), a related service area, or in an area of a specific disability, AND an intermediate administrator certificate (092).
- Must be CPR certified
Salary Range: $120-130k/yr
