Job Summary

This 10-month, part-time position provides counseling services to students in Pre-K through 12th grades at parochial schools in Manchester, CT.

The school counselor delivers a range of interventions to support students’ mental health, behavioral development, academic progress, and classroom engagement. Responsibilities include individual and group counseling, consultation with teachers, parents, and administrators, and support around the college application process for older students and their families.

The school counselor plays a key role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment. A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is central to this position and the broader mission of CCGC.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Is responsible to the Director of Community and Home-Based Services.
  • Provides individual support on a regular or as-needed basis to referred students to enhance their functioning in the school setting.
  • Offers parenting support including providing information about students’ academic, social and emotional functioning, problem-solving around student performance concerns, reviewing accommodation plans, and recommending internal or external supports.
  • Provides crisis intervention and support to students when necessary and appropriate. 
  • Works closely with school staff members to determine and provide the appropriate level of support for students in need.
  • Observes students in the classroom and is available to attend PPT’s or other parent/school meetings of assigned students. 
  • Develops and provides social work support groups to students, as needed.
  • Makes appropriate outside clinical referrals for students.
  • The Parochial School Counselor is responsible for other tasks that may be assigned by the Chief Administrator of the school or school designee or by the Director of Community and Home-Based Services or designee.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified individuals must have a master’s degree and an associate license in a mental health field and be license-eligible in the state of CT; have proven experience working with children, families, and groups; and be skilled in crisis assessment and intervention, providing information and referrals, and collaborating with other professionals on behalf of clients or students.

Spanish speaking preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

Candidates must have a master’s degree and an associate license and be license eligible in the State of CT.

CREDENTIALING

This person is credentialed to provide diagnostic and treatment services to children 0-19 and their families under the supervision of a licensed clinician.
