Grow Ahead Coordinator (Volunteer Position)

JOB SUMMARY:

The Volunteer Grow Ahead Coordinator plays a key role in leading CCGC’s hands-on gardening and wellness program, providing creative, nature-based learning experiences for students and families. This independent and dynamic volunteer position engages approximately 40 CCGC School students each week through activities centered on gardening, wellness, nature, nutrition, and biology.

The coordinator helps refine and update the Grow Ahead curriculum to keep activities fresh, engaging, and developmentally appropriate for returning students. In addition, this volunteer supports agency-wide “To-Go” activities, assists with community outreach and fundraising for the program, and helps maintain CCGC’s gardens, greenhouse, grow rack, and educational and therapeutic materials to ensure vibrant, educational spaces year-round.

This is a volunteer position requiring approximately 10 hours per week.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implements Grow Ahead activities using the established curriculum for approximately 40 CCGC School students each week.
  • Refines and enhances the year-round, hands-on gardening curriculum to ensure it remains developmentally appropriate, educational, and therapeutic for students in grades K–8.
  • In collaboration with the Grow Ahead Committee, coordinates with other CCGC programs to prepare and distribute take-home therapeutic garden activities.
  • Oversees the care and maintenance of all plants, gardens, and related spaces, including management of gardening supplies and materials.
  • Organizes and maintains inventory of educational and therapeutic materials needed for all activities.
  • Maintains regular communication with supervisor and participates in supervision or team meetings as needed.
  • Assists with outreach and fundraising efforts to support and promote the Grow Ahead Program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Creativity and enthusiasm for developing hands-on, nature-based learning experiences.
  • Experience working with children preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Basic knowledge of gardening and/or interest in environmental, nutritional, or wellness education a plus.
